With short path distillation, a substantial decrease of boiling temperature is obtained by reducing the operating pressure. The VTA Pilot short path distillers are set up as modules and used to separate small product quantities that will enable a later scale up to industrial systems. The evaporator has an achievable operating pressure down to 0.001mbar. It can process a material with a maximum viscosity of 15,000 mPas (cP) at operating temperature.

Evaporation at low operating pressure with very gentle distillation

The special design of short path evaporators by VTA allows operating pressures down to 0.001 mbar. The very low operating pressures ensure very low distillation temperatures and therefore a very gentle distillation is possible. The short path distillation allows the thermal separation of high molecular and high-boiling products.

Thanks to short residence time, low evaporation temperature and the immediate cooling of the concentrate, thermal stress and decomposition of the product can be minimized.
